Murcia is one of Spain's smallest autonomous communities and does not have regional provinces with separate local governments. The entire region is controlled from the capital Murcia and the legislative centre of Cartagena. The region's 170km coastline is the shortest of the four mainland mediterranean comunidads and is called the Costa Cálida (Warm Coast), which includes an inland sea called the Mar Menor The combination of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean Sea coastlines almost double Murcia's coastline length. The Costa Calida covers the Murcia coastline from Aguilas to San Pedro del Pinatar. This Costa has 13 ports of which nine have marinas suitable for visiting leisure vessels. Two of the ports, Escombreras and Portman are unsuitable for visiting yachts. Escombreras is an industrial port and Portman is heavily silted so that only very shallow draft vessels can enter. The most important harbour on this coastline is Cartagena, which is safely accessible in all weather conditions and provides excellent shelter. Travelling east from Cartagena to Cabo de Palos it is a rugged coastline that would be a dangerous lee shore. After rounding Cabo de Palos and heading north there is the La Manga strip that separates the Mediterranean Sea from an inland sea called the Mar Menor. This is the largest salt-water inland sea in Europe being about 12 miles long and six miles wide and it is a sailor's paradise. It can be accessed safely from the Mediterranean only via the Canal de El Estacio. There are 11 harbours and many good anchorages in the Mar Menor. This book provides details of all the harbours along the Costa Calida and in the Mar Menor. It is available as a printed book or as an Ebook on  a CD. Sample pages are given below.
