Contents Andalucia is divided into eight provinces of which five have a coastline and
their own costas. The 233km Atlantic coastal Costa de la Luz is divided between
the Huelva and Cadiz provinces. In the Mediterranean the 217km Costa del Sol is
dominated by the Malaga province but to the west near Gibraltar part of the
Costa is within the Cadiz province. The remaining costas are provincial. The
72km Costa Tropical belongs to Granada and the 150km Costa Almeria belongs to
the Almeria province. There is also the British colony in Gibraltar. The Costa
de la Luz extends from the Rio Guadiana that forms part of Spain's western
border with Portugal to the Strait of Gibraltar. There are 27 harbours along
this Atlantic coastline including harbours upstream along its navigable rivers.
The Costa del Sol runs northeast from Gibraltar to Nerja and has 13 harbours.
This Costa also used to cover the Granada province coast but that coastline was
re-designated as the Costa Tropical. The Costa Tropical extends from Nerja to
just west of Adra and has only two harbours. The Costa Almeria runs from Adra in
the west to Cabo Reono (just southwest of Aguilas) and has nine harbours. The
peninsular of Gibraltar is 4.6km long and 1.7km at its widest point and has two
harbours. Sample pages: |
